Costs for an unrelated hematopoietic cell transplant include a variety of services such as physician, pharmacy, laboratory and therapy.  These services may be performed in a hospital, an outpatient facility or laboratory.

To provide a perspective of the entire transplant process, medical coverage costs and costs to the patient and patient’s family are included.

Transplant Terms
Hematopoietic cell transplant (HCT) is also referred to as:
  • HSCT - hematopoietic stem cell transplant
  • BMT - blood or marrow transplant
A transplant may also be described by cell source:
  • Bone marrow transplant
  • Peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) transplant
  • Cord blood transplant
Hematopoietic cells are also referred to as:
  • Blood-forming cells
  • Blood-progenitor cells
  • Hematopoietic progenitor cells
