Our clinical partnerships and worldwide collaborations
We want to create a world where every patient can receive life-saving cell therapy. Together, we can make that happen.
For decades, we’ve partnered with a world-class network of centers, researchers, associations and alliances around the globe. We work together to deliver life-saving cell therapies to patients, accelerate cell therapy research to help more patients survive and thrive, and remove barriers to equitable treatment.
Explore some of our clinical partnerships and collaborations with global organizations.
NMDP global Network
From contacting and consenting blood stem cell donors through cell collection and patients receiving their cell therapy, it takes coordination with a contracted Network of centers and international partners to deliver for patients every day. More than 420 transplant centers, donor centers, apheresis centers, collection centers, member cord blood banks, cooperative registries and testing labs make up our NMDP Network.
Discover how each plays an important role in the delivery of life-saving cell therapies around the world.
CIBMTR® (Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research®)
In partnership with more than 360 transplant centers around the world, we lead transformative cell therapy research and outcomes analysis through CIBMTR, a research collaboration between the Medical College of Wisconsin® (MCW) and NMDP. CIBMTR invests more than $77 million annually in research and facilitates approximately 200 ongoing studies and clinical trials.
The strength of CIBMTR lies in our collaboration with transplant centers around the world and their commitment to advancing cell therapy for the patients we all serve. Research conducted through CIBMTR has led to innovations and practice change so patients not only survive but thrive.”

Blood and Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT CTN)
For more than 20 years, the BMT CTN has conducted multi-center clinical trials at more than 125 sites throughout the U.S. to improve patient outcomes and advance the science of blood stem cell transplant and cell therapy. NMDP, MCW and the Emmes Company coordinate and administer the BMT CTN through the BMT CTN Data and Coordinating Center to efficiently develop, implement and complete high-quality Phase II and III clinical trials. Since 2001, the BMT CTN has enrolled over 16,800 patients on more than 60 clinical trials and published more than 170 papers.
Pediatric Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Consortium (PTCTC)
The PTCTC is a clinical trials group focused on blood stem cell transplant and cell therapy research for children and adolescents. The PTCTC is a core member of the BMT CTN. More than 100 pediatric centers across the U.S., Canada, New Zealand and Australia make up the consortium, which also has affiliated members in Europe, Asia and South America.
American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT)
NMDP partners with ASTCT to create educational opportunities and advance efforts to improve access to and the outcomes of blood stem cell transplant and cell therapy. For example, NMDP and ASTCT jointly develop disease-specific Transplant Consultation Timing Guidelines to help hematology/oncology physicians identify the appropriate timing for referral to a transplant center. Through the ASTCT-NMDP ACCESS Initiative, our organizations are targeting inequities in cell therapy to create sustained and meaningful change.
EBMT
The EMBT (formerly the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation) aims to advance the field of transplant and cell therapy through collaborative research, outcomes data collection and standards setting for clinical and laboratory practices. CIBMTR and EBMT share patient outcomes data reported by transplant centers across the globe. This collaboration allows health care professionals and researchers to better understand outcomes trends, conduct studies and ultimately improve care for patients who need a blood stem cell transplant or another cell therapy.
World Marrow Donor Association (WMDA)
As a WMDA partner, NMDP serves as a part of an advisory group for the organization. Together, we promote global collaboration and best practices for both donors and patients. This network of registries, cord blood banks, researchers and centers around the globe helps to provide collaboration among organizations who are committed to providing transplant for patients who need it.
GVHD Alliance
After transplant, some patients develop a condition called graft-versus-host disease, or GVHD, which can be very serious. NMDP is one of several founding members of the GVHD Alliance, which is dedicated to improving the lives of people with GVHD. Along with providing support and resources for patients and their families, the GVHD Alliance is empowering the GVHD community to increase awareness about GVHD through events and advocacy.
