Research and clinical trials help improve transplant success and make treatment more accessible 

Research and clinical trials help improve how blood stem cell transplants are performed, making treatment safer and more effective for patients. They also help expand access to care by advancing cell therapies and alternative treatment options for patients who may have difficulty finding a fully matched donor.

With your support, researchers and clinicians can continue improving transplant outcomes, reducing complications and developing new approaches to treatment for people living with blood cancers and diseases. 

Improving transplant outcomes

Ongoing research is essential to improving transplant outcomes and helping more patients thrive after treatment. Financial donations help fund studies focused on reducing complications, improving recovery and making blood stem cell transplants and other treatment options safer and more effective.

supports collection of patient-reported outcomes before and for 5 years after transplant to provide insights into patient experience and long-term survivorship.

$1,500

provides support for a full week of scientific research pursuing new discoveries to prevent and treat post-transplant complications.

$2,000

Transplant Recovery Grant: Patients need a full-time caregiver for the first 100 days after transplant. Up to two incomes may be lost. Grants help with uninsured expenses.

Expanding access to treatment

Not every patient has the same access to life-saving treatment. Financial donations support for research and programs like NMDP Donor for All and the ASTCT-NMDP ACCESS Initiative, help expand treatment options and make life-saving cell therapy accessible to more patients.

  • $50 supports ultra-high-resolution HLA typing of a single donor or recipient research sample for use in studies to improve our understanding of matching for a successful transplant.
  • $100 supports ultra-high-resolution HLA typing of a pair of donor-recipient research samples for use in studies to improve our understanding of matching for a successful transplant.

Every advancement helps create more pathways to care for patients and families. 

 

Developing new treatment options with clinical trials and cell therapies

Clinical trials and emerging cell therapies are helping shape the future of treatment for blood cancers and disorders. With the help of financial donations, programs like Jason Carter Clinical Trials Search and Support (CTSS) are able to provide one-on-one support for patients and families as they explore and navigate clinical trial opportunities they may be eligible for.

Financial donations also support CIBMTR® (Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research®), a research collaboration between the Medical College of Wisconsin® and NMDP that helps advance blood stem cell transplant and cell therapy research through critical data, research resources and scientific collaboration.
