NBA fans: Score big against blood cancer

Roughly 40 people in the U.S. will be diagnosed with a blood cancer during the time it takes to play a pro basketball game. Many of them—including athletic trainer and physical therapist Ed Lacerte of the NBA—may need a blood stem cell transplant. Join point guard Marcus Smart in supporting patients. Sign up to be a donor.

Marcus’ story

Pro basketball player Marcus Smart lost his mother to blood cancer. Now he’s partnering with NMDP to raise awareness about our life-saving work and the need for more blood stem cell donors. “Going through what I went through with my mom is a big reason for me to get involved and be the change.”

We are not powerless against blood cancer. Joining the registry is a way to give hope to patients and their families.

Why YOU matter

You have the power to save a life. If you’re between 18-35, join the registry to become a blood stem cell donor. Your cells could cure or treat a patient with a blood cancer or disorder. And because of your unique genetics, you might be someone’s only hope, their MVP.

You can also get involved by making a gift. Financial donations can ease a patient’s transplant journey—or make it possible for them to reach transplant in the first place.
