Financial assistance before and after transplant

Exploring financial help is normal—and we’re here to support you

A blood or marrow transplant (BMT) is a potentially life-saving treatment, but planning for costs before and after transplant can feel overwhelming. Your financial situation may change while you or your loved one is going through treatment and recovery, and you may need some help paying for costs. You aren't alone.

Our NMDPSM Patient Support Center navigators are here to help you and your loved ones understand the costs you can expect—and help you access planning tools and financial help. Support from navigators who speak Spanish is also available. We'll get back to you within 3 business days after you reach out.

Grant options from NMDP

Financial concerns shouldn't keep you from having BMT or doing well after treatment. That's why NMDP provides financial assistance to support you and your family. An NMDP patient navigator or your transplant center team—usually a social worker—can help you determine if you may be eligible for a grant and apply on your behalf.

Receiving the NMDP crisis grant was such a huge help to us. In between my transplant and my son's transplant, we discovered mold in our house and needed extensive renovations. This grant is helping us pay down a huge portion of that bill and getting us one step closer to being able to move back home."

Eligibility for NMDP grants

To qualify, your household income typically must be below 350% of the federal poverty level. We look at your household income from last month—not last year—because your income can change if you or a loved one must stop working during treatment and recovery. This chart can help you estimate if your income qualifies.
