Overview
UAB Medicine's Blood Marrow Transplantation and Cell Therapy provides an entire range of blood and marrow transplant options for patients in Alabama and surrounding states. We aim to provide our patients and families with expert and honest, compassionate recommendations to assure they have the best possible outcomes.This center has been performing allogeneic transplants since 1992 and has been an NMDP transplant center since November 1995.

The UAB Medicine's Blood & Marrow Transplant Program has many additional supportive services to aide patient & family caregivers through the transplant process. Supportive services include: -Dedicated BMT staff in a plethora of areas-Multi-disciplinary patient education to prepare patients for discharge from transplant admission, educational materials are on paper and also available online -Nearby accommodations at American Cancer Society Hope Lodge for most patients at no charge -Ronald McDonald House is adjacent to hospital campus at a nominal fee for families of pediatric patients -Various local hotels offer discount rates, all provide shuttle service to hospital campus -Participation in the NMDP Care -Dedicated Adult Inpatient Music Therapist -Extensive Spiritual Care Services both inpatient & outpatient (Chaplains available from many faiths) -Many outpatient services including: Educational Resource Center (pamphlets, brochures, computer terminals for searches, WiFi for internet access and conference area for discussion with Cancer Center Personnel), Nutritional Counseling, Chemotherapy Education; Patient Liaison for immediate non-medical issues; Art Therapy; Fertility Preservation Counseling and Services; For pediatric patients there is an on-sight public school teacher and classroom (or can go to patient's room if necessary) assisting students to keep current with their school work.Patient survival information for this center
