Transplant Summary
Overview
The BMT/Stem Cell service is the oldest transplant program in New York State, beginning its allogeneic transplant program in 1983. The program was granted FACT reaccreditation in April 2007, October 2010, April, 2014, October 2017 and June 2021. In addition to performing both Autologous and Allogeneic stem cell transplants, we also perform haploidentical transplants from related donors. We also have the ability to manufacture on site Cytotoxic T Lymphocytes to fight CMV, EBV, Adenovirus and BK virus. This center has been performing allogeneic transplants since 1983 and has been an NMDP transplant center since September 1994.

This center's actual 1-year survival results are below the expected rate for this center*.The survival information we have for this center includes ONLY:- Patients who had their FIRST ALLOGENEIC transplant (cells from a related or unrelated donor/cord blood) during 2020, 2021, 2022 and
- Who had their transplant at a U.S. transplant center, and
- Who had follow-up information provided by the transplant center for analysis
For this center, we have survival information for 38 patients. The actual 1-year survival of these patients is 68.4%.Compared to similar patients transplanted at all centers in the U.S., we expect that the 1-year survival for patients at this center to be in a range between 73.5% and 94.5%.For help with understanding these statistics, please see Understanding Transplant Outcomes. For overall survival for all patients transplanted with a specific disease, please see U.S. Patient Survival report (Opens in a new tab) at bloodcell.transplant.hrsa.gov.* The expected survival rate for a transplant center can be below, similar to, or above the range listed. This is based on comparing patient survival at all centers that treated patients with similar diseases.
The survival rate cannot tell how you will do with your transplant. Talk to your doctor to understand your prognosis or the likely course of your disease.

This program specializes in following patients who have completed treatment for cancer or are recipients of a blood or bone marrow transplant. Our program manages their long-term follow-up care through a multidisciplinary team of providers knowledgeable in the existing research on late-effects in survivors. The Wellness & Survivorship program is designed to be a yearly clinic visit which promotes wellness, provides proper resources, and maintains a supportive environment. At each visit, the patient will meet with an oncologist, nurse practitioner, social worker, and neuropsychologist, receive a physical examination and brief social and neuropsychological assessments, and be provided with prescriptions for blood work and routine screening tests based on their cancer history and treatment regimen. Patients also receive a personalized Survivorship Care Plan, which summarizes the major parts of their treatment as well as the current guidelines for follow-up. The care plan recommendations are based on guidelines published by the Children's Oncology Group and are specific to the types of therapy received.
