Group support for transplant recipients

Joining a post-transplant support group can help you connect with others, reduce stress and learn practical tools as you navigate survivorship. Our free, virtual BMT Survivorship Chats, facilitated by NMDPSM social workers, connects you with others at similar stages of recovery to offer mutual encouragement and support. You can join a chat whether your transplant was weeks ago or years ago.

Chats are offered twice a month in English and once a month in Spanish.

The Survivorship Chats have given me a space to speak about my experience and process those memories with other people who understand."

Survivorship Chats provide a space for transplant survivors to share experiences, challenges and connect with others post-transplant.

  • The chats are facilitated by NMDP social workers.
  • Each month, a transplant recovery topic is highlighted for discussion like graft-versus-host disease, methods for coping, etc.
  • If you’re interested in a topic, you can sign up for more than one session.

Register online or contact us at 1-866-301-4650 or email survivorship@nmdp.org. We'll send you the dial-in details for the sessions you choose.

Is a support group right for you?

Before joining, consider the following questions:

  • Do I enjoy being part of a group?
  • Am I ready to share my feelings?
  • Would I benefit from hearing others' stories?
  • Would it help me to support others?

Questions for the group leader:

  • How many people typically attend?
  • Is it open to patients, caregivers or both?
  • How often does the group meet?
  • What can I expect in a typical session?
